Montelindo Garden Club’s next meeting speaker on Friday, January 17, 2025 The Montelindo Garden Club will present speakers Susan and Tony DiStefano, on Sogetsu Ikebana. "There are thousands of different schools of ikebana. Our school, Sogetsu ikebana, is one of the largest and it hasan emphasis on freeing the designer to work with all sorts of materials- not just live flowers- once the basics have been mastered. Our founder, Sofu Teshigahara, believed that ikebana is an art and that the difference between the Sōgetsu School and Ikebana lies in the belief that once all the rules are learned and the techniques mastered, an unbounded field remains for freer personal expression using varied materials, not just flowers. Depending on what inspires us as we prepare, we may include dried and painted flowers, plastic, metal, or glass in our designs. We’ll start with very structured traditional designs and get more creative as we move along." Free. See schedule and map below.

For Contra Costa County schools where 50% or more of the students are eligible for free or subsidized school lunches, UC Master Gardeners and UC Nutrition educators partner together to provide both nutrition education and Master Gardener support in the creation of on-site school gardens.
